Some days are truly inspirational, whether it be someone you speak to, something you see, or something great you get involved with. Well today was all three for me!

I had the opportune chance to work with a seasoned food photography pro, David Campbell, today on a Jamba juice shoot and met a room full of beautiful open heart creatives who made me feel welcomed and talked shop for a couple of hours, which has been some I have been craving for quite a while.

Immediately after this happening, I had another opportunity to help a long time SF friend with some photography for his new food Truck: OLD WORLD FOOD TRUCK which is host to a beautiful menu of Jewish comfort cuisine.
I am so grateful for all of my mentors who see potential in me and take me underneath their wings of knowledge and trust (and recommend finding these kinds of people in your own life), and equally as thankful for all of those in my life who have given me a chance to show what I can do! You can tell today was a good day, huh? :)

Spring has sprung; and so has the menu at one of my favorite restaurants in San Mateo!
Last nights dinner at the Primavera Chef’s Tasting event at AcquaPazza Restauranté was exactly the kind of meal I had been waiting patiently for all winter long.
One of my most enjoyed veggies; the artichoke was served two ways with a roasted red pepper aioli. Also on the menu were cocktail and wine pairings; the refreshing Balsamico cocktail was paired with Spring Colorado Roasted Leg of Lamb. Lastly, something sweet: a fresh strawberry and kiwi tartlet and espresso corretto. I am so ecstatic that it is finally spring!!

A lovely evening with Chef Kenny Hockert as he hosted Passover at La Victoria Bakery in the Mission Friday night. A crowded room of friends and family one by one read a prayer as traditional food was passed throughout the dimly lit dining room. Only sounds of pure delight could be heard as course by course were served and shared.

I have had the very enjoyable experience of growing some of my favorite foods from seeds, watching them grow and nurturing them until harvest. There is a certain amount of accomplishment when you get to pick the food you are about to eat from right outside your back door.

That being said- there is another level of excitement to be invited into the secret world of fungus harvesting. I recently had the special opportunity to forage the woods of Crystal Springs Reservoir in San Mateo (CA) for Chanterelle mushrooms. The rains had just come days before, so there were many spots of orange speckling the ground. That day I walked away with approximately 2 pounds of Chanterelles *$18lb. retail*.

There is one feeling of being able to grow your own food, and another entirely of hunting wild mushrooms where only a few select people know grow.

There are few better ways to spend an afternoon than driving over the hill to Half Moon Bay. Sitting by a large window overlooking the prehistoric size pelicans diving for their own lunch, I got to enjoy one of my tried and true favorites: Fried Calamari at Sam’s.
Now if only I had enough self control to have snapped a picture of the macaroon I had with an espresso at Mezza Luna cafe afterwards :)

Collective Roots

All for One

Yesterday was a great shooting day.

First, I got to help a great friend out whose house was recently broken into and computer stolen. Having just had a beautiful baby boy, all of his baby pictures were taken from her. It was my pleasure to give a little back by taking some new baby/family portraits for her to start a new collection of memories.

I was also invited to donate a night of event photography to help raise funds for Collective Roots, a non-profit organization that engages youth and communities in creating healthy sustainable food systems through garden-based learning. I love what this organization is doing for our our youth and was incredibly inspired by their mission that besides donating my photography last night I have also decided to donate my time and energy in their gardens!!
